Scan, Never Transcribe

A handheld scanner drops the exact animal ID straight into your active data field. Handwriting and typos stop being a source of lost data.

Autoclavable, MRI & CT Compatible

Tags and applicators are autoclavable before use, and the tags are safe for MRI and CT imaging, so the same animal stays identified through the whole study.

Color-Coded with 10 Options

Ten tag colors let you group by cohort, cage, or condition at a glance, before you ever pick up the scanner.

Three Steps: Load, Apply, Scan

Loading a RapID tag into the applicator

1. Load

Common Questions

Does applying a tag require anesthesia?

No. Tags apply without anesthesia, which is easier on the animal and on your staff.

What do we scan the tags with?

We recommend the CODE CR1500 or CR2700 scanners. They are proven against the tag’s code size and read reliably in a real vivarium workflow. Any scanner that decodes 2D Data Matrix codes can work, though performance varies with the reader. Either way it behaves like a keyboard, so the ID lands in whatever field your cursor is in. No custom software or drivers.

Are they MRI and imaging safe?

Yes. The tags are safe for MRI and CT imaging and are designed to stay readable throughout the study.

Can we sterilize the tags and applicator?

Yes. Products do not ship sterilized, and both the tags and the applicator are autoclavable before use. See DOC085 — Sterilization and Disinfecting (PDF) for the recommended cycle.

Do they work with our colony management software or LIMS?

Yes. Because the scanner types the ID like a keyboard, it works with any platform that accepts keyboard input. See our software partners.

Can we see the tags in action before buying?

Yes. We offer a free online demonstration walking through application, scanning, and how the IDs land in your system. Book below and we will also go through pricing for your cage count.
